How does laser hair removal work?
How long do the results of laser hair removal last?
Compared to conventional hair removal methods, laser hair removal for women and men offers long-lasting results. Although this technique has been recognized as the most efficient hair removal method, it cannot guarantee total hair removal. The treatment is designed to reduce hair growth by up to 80%-90%, and the hairs that do grow back will be finer and softer. Also know that laser hair removal cannot prevent the appearance of new hair follicles due to hormonal changes (pregnancy, menopause, hormonal imbalance). The use of certain medications or, for example, a period of stress and a lot of exercise can also contribute to changes that allow our body to produce hair again. In this case, touch-up sessions are scheduled.
More about laser hair removalIs laser hair removal expensive?
Although the initial cost of laser hair removal for women and men is significantly higher than waxing at a salon or purchasing shaving equipment, you are guaranteed to save money in the long run. Conventional hair removal seems cheaper, but of course it must be repeated for years. The purchase of razors, depilatory creams or monthly wax/resin treatments becomes unnecessary and - importantly - you also save time! At the end of the treatment, you will enjoy more confidence, more comfort and a solid time savings.

Can all types of hair be lasered?
To depilate with a laser, the hairs must contain pigment. The laser beam uses the dark pigment (melanin) in your hair as conduction to penetrate the hair follicle from which the hair grows. If the hair does not contain pigment, laser hair removal is of little use. Blonde, gray and red hairs do not contain pigment and therefore cannot be treated. In some cases, it can be tried if there is still some melanin (i.e. pigment) in the hair. Lasering thin downy hairs is also not an option.
How many treatments are needed to get rid of my hair?
The exact number depends on your age, hormones, the location and color of your hair, your type of skin, and other factors. After only three treatments, you can usually see a nice effect, but it is not yet the desired result. It takes an average of 5 to 6 laser treatments to remove very black and thick hairs on the legs, bikini line, armpits and other body parts. So you should count on an average of 6 to 7 months of treatment with an interval of about 4-6 weeks between laser treatments. You should count on more treatments for the lighter and thinner hairs : an average of 7 to 8 treatments or even more.
Laser hair removal for men?
Men often have more and darker body hair than women, and hair growth also occurs in other places, such as the back, abdomen and chest. Do you experience this as a problem? Then consider getting permanent hair removal in a particular area. More and more men finding their way to laser hair removal.
Laser hair removal for men- It is important that you do not wax or epilate the area you wish to have treated from 6-8 weeks before your first appointment. That way you will ensure faster and longer lasting results. Also, no dyes or bleaches.
- Sunbathing, as well as tanning beds or self-tanning creams have a negative effect on permanent hair removal. So all types of tanning are not recommended when you have your excess hair removed by means of laser hair removal.
- Properly clean the zone to be treated: no makeup, deodorant, skin creams, and other factors that may affect hygiene.
- The first week after the treatment, it seems as if the hairs are growing again. However, these are only hairs shed by the hair follicle. The first results can be seen only after a few days: on average one week for the face, 2 weeks for armpits and bikini waxing and 3 weeks for the legs.
- For at least 4 weeks after treatment no sun or tanning bed to prevent pigmentation.
- Sauna, hot bath or shower are not allowed as long as any redness is visible.
- Between treatments do not wax or pull out hair with tweezers! Only shaving is allowed.
Safe and efficient
Laser hair removal using a diode laser is completely safe, provided it is done properly by a trained laser therapist. Furthermore, it is important to discuss your (medical) history: conditions, UV exposure, illnesses, medications, etc.

Benefits of laser hair removal
Of course, the durable result of laser hair removal is the main advantage over conventional hair removal techniques. However, there are other advantages:
Removing unwanted hair growth by shaving with a razor blade or working with a wax strip sometimes brings inconveniences, such as ingrown hairs. These ingrown hairs can cause irritation, inflammation and discoloration. With laser hair removal, this is not the case.
Repeated epilation by shaving and/or waxing the same area can also result in inflamed hair follicles (they are located in the top layer of skin and this is where your hair grows from). Such an inflammation is also known as folliculitis and is common, at all ages, in both men and women.
An annoying and fortunately usually short-lived side effect of conventional shaving that everyone has had to deal with at one time or another : shaving wounds. You can get these if you push too hard on your razor blade, if you shave hard-to-reach areas or if you are simply careless.
In addition, skin irritation from shaving or waxing can also cause redness. This can be the case with razor burn. In addition to redness, shaving burn can also leave you with a burning sensation and itching. It disappears after a few hours or days, but can be quite uncomfortable.

Book your intake meetingThe history of laser hair removal
The history of laser hair removal spans several decades. Although lasers were invented as early as 1960 and sporadic attempts were made to conduct hair removal with this - old - laser technology, it was not until 1983 that a theoretical basis was laid for selective laser hair removal. It wasn't until 1994 that real laser hair removal was perfected.
For whom is laser hair removal suitable?
Anyone with excess body hair can use laser hair removal; it is a cosmetic procedure that can improve your appearance or self-image. Many people also prefer not to have to shave regularly.
However, sometimes laser hair removal can also address excessive hair growth caused by medical conditions, such as:
Hirsutism is stiff or dark body hair that appears on the body where women usually have no hair - mainly the face, chest, lower abdomen, inner thighs and back. Often hirsutism has no known cause, but is a symptom of other conditions.
More on hirsutismHypertrichosis is a condition characterized by excessive hair growth anywhere on a person's body. It can affect both women and men and is extremely rare. The abnormal hair growth can cover both face and body or occur in small patches and occurs at birth or develops later.
